The Best Time Was...

Rabbit Hunt - One of my favorite memories of Christmas was the time I got the game "Rabbit Hunt". It was the early 1970s. There was always a Century catalog in our house. My brothers, sister, and I saved our money from shoveling snow or delivering newspapers. We made our Christmas lists both for what we were buying and what we wanted out of the Century catalog. The Century catalog always included the weight & dimensions of their products. This particular year, the one thing I wanted the most was "Rabbit Hunt". I knew it weighed about 5 pounds and it came in a box that was 23 1/2 inches long by 6 inches high by 4 inches deep. This toy that fascinated me so was a double-barrel dart gun rifle and a wind up toy rabbit. The object was to wind up the rabbit and let it scurry along the floor while you take aim and knock the rabbit on its side with one of your two shots. I was so obsessed with getting this toy that I came downstairs on Christmas morning around 3 or 4 AM. I got the yard stick from along side our refrigerator in the kitchen. Then finding a gift to me that appeared to be what I was hoping for; I measured the box until I was sure. I was so happy and pleased with myself. I just plopped down right there under the Christmas Tree and fell asleep until the morning. That was the best time!
